    srkjkd Book before coin

books and maybe something from the mint. show him your coins and maybe some virtual tours online. and let him get a feel for what he enjoys. steer him clear of overpriced coins and some of the pitfalls out there. have fun!...steve

First, get him to buy a copy of "The Guide Book" (red book) and them let him read about the various typs.
Then show him some of your acquisitions.
    It'll come naturally to him.

this is what i would do- 1. get him a copy of the redbook
    2. go to the bank and get him some cents, nickels, ect.
    3. find the coins
    4. teach him how to look them up in the book
    5. advance to the next level and go to a coin shop or flea market
