This came as an added bonus to a Iberian As thatI purchased. A wonderful freebie. Interesting Freebie I got, all it needed was a proper photo and its a wonderful coin. I believe it is Valentinian II Trier mint. 10 mm x 1.06 grams
Most freebees are coins the giver does not think will sell easily. This one is not high dollar but I'd think it collectible. Being fully identifiable puts it ahead of many of the late gates.
Cool OP-addition (congrats) ... free is always a winner, eh? => here is a freebie that Batman gave me ... it's apparently a fourree of a Thrace Abdera example ... pretty cool (and super nice of him) ... and it paid-off, for I keep returning to the well to sip the water!!
I like the unique style of the last campgates. I suppose they had to pare down the design - not much room on AE4's. The OP coin is a better example than the majority of the type.
My favorite of my few campgates. Its in nice shape as far as these go and this type is from the later part of his reign when his coins get really scarce. Valentinian III, Western Roman Empire AE nummus Obv: D N VALENTINIANO P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped bust right Rev: CRA-TRA, campgate, star above Mint: Rome (Mintmark: ROMA; struck 440-455 AD) Ref: RIC X 2160
I think that any free coin has its value. But one that is fully attributable is a rare find indeed. Your freebie is better than the vast majority, for sure.
