Good evening everyone! Just thought i'd hop on and show my latest Bust Dollar purchase. This is my initial small eagle coin, as I round the corner in my attempt to complete a 1795 to 1803 date set. This coin is not a gem 65 by any means, but it is a beautiful, historic representative of the 1797 date. So far as i can tell, this one is original and untouched. These can be very, very hard to locate with nice surfaces and eye appeal at this grade level, especially for the year 1797. When I saw this one, at, imho, a decent price, I had to move on it. Sorry, my pics arent the best....but here is my 1797 small eagle. Unbelievable to hold and consider...when this coin was struck our country was still young, George Washington still lived, and John Adams was taking the oath to be our second president. Please, post any early federal coinage you may have....(especially Draped Busts)! 20181020_211919.jpg 20181020_212110.jpg

Nice pickup there. Love the small eagles, but still don’t have a Bust example. I hope to get one soon.

Congrats on finding what looks like a nice original example, tough coin! I'm on the lookout for one of these too, also in VF. Looks like the field has been reduced by 1 now. I just have this 1799, which had an old cleaning and since retoned. [IMG] [IMG]

Thanks, I will keep looking. A lot of them in graded holders still have problems, so I am reluctant to bid in the big Auctions. "Patience is a virtue" in this particular endeavor

For sure! Originality with few abrasions....except for the occasional adjustment mark..is what i live by.

I agree with ksparrow, nice, original, draped bust coinage is difficult to find, and your 1797 dollar is a very nice example.

1797 also is a scarcer year, in my opinion - In fact, when I was adding these to my collection, I found that 1797's and specially 1798's (with small eagle) were the most difficult.

My own examples are mostly raw, and not perfect either with adjustment marks, light blemishes, possible cleanings, etc. Still love then, though!
