    Domitian Æ Sestertius.
    Rome, AD 85.

    IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS XI CENS POT P P, laureate bust of Domitian right wearing aegis / Emperor standing left, holding spear; beauty aegis

    German captive kneeling right before, presenting shield set amongst various arms; S-C across fields, broken spear in exergue.

    RIC 357; C. 489; BMC 337; BN 358.

    I believe most of us would have trouble accepting bright shining yellow brass sestertii but that is what they looked like when new. I think each of us should have one coin that is cleaned to metal just to remind us that the green patina was not 'natural' in 90 AD. My Domitian dupondius is odd looking now. Imagine it shining like the current US golden dollars.
