    Im anxiously waiting myself too!!!

They're dropping hints like crazy, and I've heard some rumors already that one of the reverse designs is going to be a buffalo!!!

Im sure if this is actually the case, when it comes out, it'll be a real boom to nickel collectors and values across both the Jeff series and Buffalo's.

Fun time to be collecting Nickels, indeed!!!

The US Mint had many of these designs on display at the Pittsburg show. There were enough great designs to bring new nickels for 60 years. A shame that most will be put on the shelf to never be seen. Maybe we will get lucky and they will get used on another coin.

I too anxiously await the new designs. I am guessing that the "relived" design may be an interpretation of the shield design. Just a guess. There are some very interesting designs presented and we only have a couple more days to wait!

The first one will be the "American Bison", and the second will be the "Ocean in View".

    What do you think?

Yeah, you sound really enthusiastic. LOL

I'm sort of the same way. I'd be a lot more excited, if our modern coinage had some relief to their designs. :(

JT: I already see problems the mint will be faced with if they go with the new Jefferson and the Buffalo. If you look at the pictures you will see that all the metal will be needed in the center of the coin on both sides. Metal flow will be a great problem and will probably create a need for a very low relief Buffalo and probably a new Three Legged Variety. The Idea for the coin is great but in reality it will probably look terrible.~robert

It's not so much that the design scares me away but I guess I would have rather seen something "all new" other than something revisited. Mixing the two series is an interesting concept but a revised interpretation of Monticello would have been something more to my liking. I do like the obverse. All that aside I think it will spark some needed collector interest in the series and in coin collecting in general for sure.

Is it safe to call the coin a Jeffallo? ;) I would be willing to place bets that our new buff reverse nickel will be famed similar to the PMM quarter from looking at the new design. HAH

    O! The Joy! (???????)

I know it's what one of them wrote in their journal upon seeing the west coast for the first time, but did they have to put it on the reverse of the coin?

That's my only complaint. I like all the designs, but I don't care for, "Ocean in Veiw! O! The Joy" I've already read that some literary academics object because Ocean was actually spelled "Ocian" or something like that in the journal. Wouldn't that be great, along with their denials of any type of genuine doubling errors on modern coinage, they'd be on the defensive for their spelling skills as well LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course they could just put [sic] on the coin, that'd look classy-

I know you guys aren't thrilled about the buffalo - but I think its really going to revive and stimulate interest and growth in the hobby and these series'. Think of all the baby boomers & older generations who may/have passively collected that'll be able to show their kids and grandkids a modern example of the nickels they remeber/used to collect! :)

2005 will be another banner year for mint sales, I'm sure.

    Just my five cents,
    Chris
