Along with the Urbs Roma I posted in another thread, I picked up this Constantinoplis from the same seller. But unlike the Urbs Roma which I bought for the reverse, this coin I bought because the obverse is so well preserved. And, like the URBS Roma, this is not my first nor my best Constantinoplis, but it is my first from Trier. Trier mint, RIC VII 548, 332-33 AD OBV: CONSTANTINOPOLIS, laureate, helmeted & mantled bust left holding sceptre REV: Victory standing left on foot of prow with sceptre and leaning on shield, wreath left, TRP in ex. 2.8g 17mm
Very, very nice! Beautiful chocolate color. Are the dates 332-33 for the Trier mint only? I know they had a longer run than that, overall.
When these are nice they are very nice. And you coin is just such an example. I must admit to having a bit of a soft spot for these... Commemorative - RIC VII Arles 369 (R3) Obv: CONSTANTINOPOLIS, Helmeted and laureate Constantinopolis bust left Rev: None, Victory standing left on prow of a galley, holding transverse spear across her body and shield Minted in Arles (Triple palm branch angled left | _ /SCONST). Reference:– RIC VII Arles 369 (R3)
I've already posted mine recently, but it seems de rigeur on this forum that when one person posts a coin, everybody pulls out theirs. So here it is again. Not a great example, but I'm looking for the right one in a higher grade...
That's not cruddy Ripley - it's nice and round, centered, good detail on the reverse, and problem-free.
Beautiful pieces Martin! Steve-O: I hope you wash your hands! I don't even want to know where they've been.
