Ok so here i am trying to find good websites to buy coins from and going through post after post after post. Being a new collector Its hard to find the right place to go and buy and some place reputibale that wont be some type of scam. Im gearing up for new coin releases next year but I would like to get some recently designed sets. I know I will be picky about the grade of coins because im a lousy perfectionest!! This is one of my examples: I was looking at this set because I LOVE the display case but I dont know if im going to get ripped off in the sence of these coins were probable gone through, all the exceptional ones taken out and or cleaned or they just stink in general........ http://www.danburymint.com/coins/prod/The-State-Quarters-Treasure-Chest_12578.aspx Any help would be GREATLY GREATLY appreciated, like where use like to buy, if there is any good websites, or some of your favorite display cases that keep coins in great condition that are cool to showcase. That I can buy individual coins then fill in myself. Thanks and have a great holiday!!!
Give this a lot of thought. Danbury Mint is similar to The Franklin Mint, HSN, etc.. It is a marketing company. Whatever you purchase shouldn't be considered an investment because you would have overpayed (a lot!) for the coins and a nice looking cabinet. You get a "roll" of quarters which contains only 12 quarters, plus one extra quarter, shipping and service for a total price of $25.00 times 50 states.... for a total price of $1250. Also, they say "Supplies are limited and, once we're sold out of a single state, this offer must be withdrawn." Personally, if I was interested in this sort of thing, I would try to by a completed set down the road. Buyer beware.
This is true, Franklin mint and Danbury mint have some nice stuff along With Littleton coin company but you are basically price gauged!! for the Pleasure to do business with them, You can find way better deals elseware And save lots of $$$ in the process!!
I would be very weary. I bought a complete Ike dollar set in an oak presentation box for $191 last year. The seller bought the set in 2006 for $400 from the First Commemorative Mint (similar to the Danbury Mint). He included a copy of the invoice in the set. The set was probably a pretty good deal at $191 but definately over priced at $400. Although you'll get a few dissenters on this site, check the same thing on ebay prior to laying down the bucks. At the very least, you'll get a pretty good idea of the market value.
Hello Auchey, Buy what you want to collect & enjoy. Note that just about all state quarters are available at coin shows for about 50 cents each. You can pick a nice one (or a nice dozen) from various dealers’ rolls. If you sold the treasure chest to a coin shop, then they would probably offer you something much less than 50 cents per coin and they would pay you something extra for the chest.
