Howdy All, I notice that there are more and more NNC and NTC graded coins appearing on Ebay. Are these just different coin grading companys or could coin dealers and other people be putting out the slabbed coins?
They are differant and it is my opinion they are worthless. Yeah, yeah...buy the coin, not the slab and if you can get some good deals, go for it. Just subtract 2 to 9 sheldon points. My experience with NTC coins is that they "recondition" the coin (especially copper cents) and really rank poor in all of the rankings. NNC slabbed coins don't rank in the upper tier (or middle tier) of the grading companies. Nice grade...I don't thinks so. Stick with the top 4.
I don't think I've heard of NNC. Are they pretty new? There are so many new ones cropping up every day that it's hard to keep up.
The main reason it's hard to not get them all confused is that they all try to sound similar to "PCGS" or "NGC."
I have to ask the obvious question about these off-beat grading companies... Who are the graders? Given the above picture, it would appear they've hired anyone with a pulse! Most dealers/collectors I know have a generally more solid grading skills then whats evident from a company like NTC. It's not humorous...it's despicable (sp?).
I think you answered your own question. Maybe whoever graded this didn't realize that there were supposed to be details in the bust? Or maybe someone broke the original coin out of the slab and reslabbed another one. From what I have seen of this grading company, their grading hasn't been this wrong. I do not agree with most grades they assign, but any rookie could see this is not an AU coin. I think it was probably tampered with after it was slabbed.
A word to the wise... be careful what you say about anybody's grading services online. Its always OK to say that you ONLY use X , Y or Z... but you can get sued for saying negative (even if true) things about someone's business. Personally I only use PCGS, NGC or ANACS. I would only sell coins in those 3 slabs. But thats MY preference. I know of people who have been named in lawsuits just because they vented about some over-graded garbage in holders. Just be careful when expressing your opinions. Sorry to be a kill-joy but I dont want to see anyone get hurt. Keep smiling and have fun!
I have bought coins over the years in every conceivable holder imaginable, because I buy the coin, not the holder. But I do it for a living and trust my grading skills. If you arent comfortable with your skills, then be very careful. Thats not to say that I havent made some mistakes... everyone does. I just try not to make the same mistake over and over again. But if you like ICG Susan, its probably very good for you. I just find that when I personally resell coins, there is less debate over the grade in those 3 brands of holders. Just my opinion...don't sue me
Hey, Mike. The lawyers'll be knockin' on your door Seriously, most of the ICG coins that I have seen have had grades I agreed with. I have not seen that many, so my experience with them is limited. However, I also am comfortable with my grading skills so I regrade every coin I see in my own mind before making the decision to purchase.
Mike, this lawyer is knocking on your door to ask you not to use the small type size in your posts. I hate having to hold a magnifying glass up to the screen.
Ditto...you hit 40 and your eyes go to hell. The last time I saw font like that was in my divorce decree and I am "still" paying for it! Also, I like ICG as well. People are on them about too many PR70 grades for moderns, but they are pretty much dead on for circulated coins. Also, I believe their slab with the Intercept Shield offers the best protection (all things being equal) than any other slab in the market. One of the reasons I like slabs is to help perserve and protect (gee, I sound like I'm getting sworn in) the coin. Add the Intercept Shield and a sonically sealed inert package helps accomplish this more so than any other measure.
I don't think I've heard of NNC. Are they pretty new? There are so many new ones cropping up every day that it's hard to keep up. NNC as been around for about two years now. They are a rather low key company.
????? hi im new at this and i have a few questins is gallery grading company good grader cause i got a 1963 d ms 67 fb roosevelt dime graded by them and everything i have been told so far is that its worthless unless i get it crossed over tolike pcgs or anacsis this true
Hello & welcome - If Im reading it right you have 1963 D Roosevelt ? Full Bands ? The answer to the question about Gallery grading is that they are not very respected in the collecting community & they do tend to overgrade their coins. You may have one that is accuratly graded but Im going to say most likley not. I would suggest that if you are interested in getting a true grade on the coin you should submit it to ANACS, NGC,or PCGS. You could also post a picture & some of the fine people here maybe able to give you opinions on it.
I agree! Grading can be expensive and if that coin doesn't cross well then you will be out your grading fees and still have a cheap coin. Post the pics, if it is exceptional quality then you can have it graded.
Good post Mike. I'm not nearly as skilled as you are regarding grading. I've only purchased one coin in an ICG holder. I wasn't happy with the grading so I sent it back. This naturally isn't statistically significant, and I'm willing to give them another try based on the experiences of many people here who have spoken positively about them.
