Just won this via the SixBid portal for an auction in Geneve. Good price for an MS62 and the even old time toning in nice. Enjoy.
Wow...I wish mine looked half that good. I've got two (year unknown): both have had hard looks by folks with experience, who suggested they may be fakes. I dunno, but the fat man appeals to me somehow, so I've kept 'em. Seems my pics are unavailable for upload; I'll take some more, and post 'em to this thread in a while.
Thanks.......I did well on the price too 280 CHF which is about 300 bucks hammer. I made an error bidding on a 50 buck coin I already had in a much higher grade, so no great loss. Just waiting for the experts on here to have a hard look at it......sometimes the details are so small such as cross grains on the wreath that only the experienced pick up on it. All the best, marbury
Piece of Eight Well, dang! I can't put my hands on those fat men. I think I know where they are, but it's for a later time now. But while rootin' 'round for 'em, this (and a few others) rolled to the top. I'm pretty sure there'll be past threads to enlighten me about the 'Reale' truth of what I've got here, but I had the camera out, so I shot a bunch of pics to share until I find the fat men. This is 26.9gm, 38.75mm; the obverse is a Carlos IV...but the reverse isn't (at least according to Wikipedia) so I have a suspicion it ain't genuine: the date also adds to that wonderment. Thanks for getting me started this morning!
Looks like my coin may well be a rare die version called long leaf that was struck from a modified 1919 die for 1921 YSK. So hope to get more info from the experts on the Chinese forum. The picture below is what a common 1921 YSK is supposed to look like. If you look at the leaf on right hand side it is much shorter than my version.
