Latest on the Bay and different than ones I have documented.

1st 2 images are from the listing:

I notified the seller but silence so far; bids up to $410.00 with 2 days left...

Now that is a scary counterfeit. I am afraid to ask.... Are the counterfeiters skills improving of late?

    Wrong reverse type.

The stem above the C. is the wrong shape.

    Good catch

    Oops, yup.

I was so busy confirming the reverse that I forgot to post about the obv

The granular surfaces should set off an initial alarm bell. I've seen pieces with surfaces similar, but not that pronounced. It looks like it was dipped in acid and left too long.

Ya, and the eagle's talons are noticeably different. Plus, there's just a bit too much boob showing on the obverse.

Gotta say, it would have fooled me though. This is one of the reasons that I only buy slabbed coins, especially on Ebay. Ain't nobody got time to be analyzing the details! (Except Jack apparently :shame:, nice catch!)

One of the issues is they keep creating different die pairs for these...

That first one with the completely wrong reverse is really silly

But, someone will buy it as a rare unlisted variety

Yep I made a post about that first one. I saw one of these a few months back about like this.

Bad idea to fake bust halves too many die variety collectors. I caught the large stars fake cause there’s only one variety

A novel approach to selling one, list it as a large cent:D...

Same "variety" as the last 1808 above:

Merely out of curiosity, why would anyone buy an apparently hi grade 1807 Capped Half, uncertified, with only blurry, off-angle photos of it?

    Particularly off The Bay.
