Sheridan Downey's (for those of you who might not know, Sheridan is "the guy" when it comes to bust half dealers) latest mail-bid sale closed last night. Real nice coins in this sale. https://www.sheridanscoins.com/. I got sniped at the last moments on two of them, but at least this one will be coming my way. About as late a die state as you will find for this die marriage. great luster, and (to me, at least) a PRETTY coin.
I think that's a lovely coin, glad you snagged her. (and if anybody wonders, that's a tiny planchet flaw (or strike through?) in front of Lady Lib's nose.
Geez a Mickey….. I kid you not. I am confident that is the most attractive bust half I have ever laid eyes on.
Very cool, man, very cool. In your opinion, what's the dot in the field in front of her eyes? Either you and I have very different tastes, or you haven't seen many bust halves....
Thanks for all the kind words, guys. She has a long-time home in my SDB ahead of her. And, yes, Yakpoo, I'm doing my happy dance. I haven't seen her in hand yet, but according to Sheridan the dot in front of her is a small planchet void. Yes, we've all heard dealers say things like that, but after dealing with him for nearly 30 years I take him at his word.
Really? that is interesting, because I am of the same opinion. Then again, I guess I have not seen many.
Very attractive coin. Love the re-toning, after an old dip. The die cracks are also really cool. Great coin.
Great looking coin. Love it! BTW, was at my local coin club meeting Wednesday night. One member is a BHNC and he showed me the latest Sheridan Downey auction catalog and his bid work-up sheet for 3 halves. I think you got this coin in the same auction? I don't know how my friend did.
It’s certainly a very nice Bust half, but if you’re patient and/or pay enough, you can get coins with virtually perfect luster, toning and eye-appeal… just look at Sheridan’s last auction ;-)
I won 2 lots in the auction. There were some really stunning coins in the sale and as you might imagine the colorful ones went for strong money along with some of the rare varieties. There were also a number of Henry Hilgard's bust half error coins for bid as well. Sheridan's catalogs are a numismatic reference in their own right and I am glad to be on the mailing list. (it helps if you buy something now and then).
This is great. The late die stage would be a minus for some but for me it's fantastic. I don't think I've seen one this nice before. Congratulations!
