I have been fortunate enough to run across a cache of better date/grade barber dimes this week. I picked up half of them today, and the rest are on layaway at with a dealer I know. Since he only has 3 or 4 regular barber customers, anything he gets goes through me or another two guys first. I just happened to get first shot on these. The 1909 really flashes well in the sun, the pictures don't do it justice imo, but the 1892 is my favorite! What do you think as far as grades?
64, 63 and maybe - in that order. The '92 has a scratch on the rev, and what looks like another smaller one on the obv that may keep it out of a slab. Personally I would consider it ungradeable but if the scratches are ignored I would say it has 64 and maybe 65 details. The pics of that one are out of focus so hard to say for sure. Sure is a pretty coin though.
I don't know what it is about me and toned coins, I just can't seem to get good pictures of them. I will try again and repost if I can get some better pics.
what scratch? A quality coin like that is a body bag? Even for a dime that just seems so wrong.. Ruben
I noticed that as well and I agree that there is a good chance it is ungradable, but it is still a really nice coin.
I just bought a Barber dime for my type collection that is AU, but no where near as nice as those. Absolutely Beautiful!!!!!! Great Find!!!!
its not deep and it is a dime. It fact, it looks like a surface blemish. 25% of nothing is still nothing... Ruben
okay try this one, that scratch in front of her nose is actually a streak in the toning. As for the reverse, there are a couple of scratches on it, but the photos make them look deeper, more pronounced somehow.
its a 100.2 pxl accross a coin image of 491 pxls or about or about 20.4 percent of the diameter....to be exact. Ruben
