Vespasian's Alexandrian tetradrachms often come very worn. When choosing one, it's really down to deciding how much wear is acceptable and that it doesn't detract from the overall eye-appeal. I think this one is fairly acceptable. Vespasian AR Tetradrachm Alexandria mint, 70-71 AD RPC 2423 (11 spec.) Obv: AYTOK KAIΣ ΣEBA OYVEΣΠAΣIANOY; Head of Vespasian, laurerate, r., date LΓ before neck Rev: No Legend; Nike flying l., with wreath and palm Vespasian's regnal year 3 coins at Alexandria are slightly scarcer than those dated year 2. This was the last major issue of tetradrachms Vespasian struck at Alexandria. The same portrait style can be seen in some of the contemporary Syrian issues, indicating that Alexandria struck coins for that province too. My cat Hershey loves coining with me. I snapped this photo right after taking the above one of the tet. Feel free to post your Egyptian coins or pictures of your pets coining.
Definitely more than acceptable, although I'm rather sorry to see you picking up Alexandrian Vespasians since I like collecting coins of Roman Egypt . Nice kitty! I used to have a black cat and never succeeded in taking a halfway decent picture of her. Black cats are hard to photograph but you've managed several nice pictures
One of the reason I started collecting Flavian provincial silver a couple of years ago is my fascination with Roman Egypt, particularly Alexandria. It was the first city to strike coins any where in the empire for Vespasian, so naturally it holds a special place. Hershey is a camera hog and fairly easy to photograph. A true model at heart. lol
Nice kitties! I have two, Hershey and his sister Snickers. It can get kind of crowded when I'm trying to coin.
Nice cats; I grew up with cats in my younger years. Mostly Siamese cats. I love animals even the wild ones.
Hello, I picked one of these up on ebay about a week ago; I am still waiting for it. Is this from the same era?
My cats passed several years ago, never replaced them though I had been tempted. Great coin, love the look of it!
I got taken? Ebay $8.99. http://www.ebay.com/itm/201616475930?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Thanks Mat! I had the same cat for 18 years and she died of cancer about a year ago. Last October I adopted the two knuckle heads pictured in the above posts from a family who could no longer keep them, but didn't want them to be separated. After having an elderly cat for so long I forgot what it was like to live with younger and active ones!
No problem. I didn't go through all the seller's listings, but the ones I did are labelled 'replicas'.
He clearly calls it a Replica coin in his description. In diameter: 19mm. Excellent Replica rare coin. Free Worldwide shipping - registered air mail.
