Hello! I found a weird penny today... I've searched high and low on the net to no avail.. Hopefully you guys can help me! I know the picture isn't all that great, but it's what I have for now. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me =) It looks like the date is 194X I have no idea when in the 1940's, but eh. What exactly is this? Is this something that someone did afterwords? It looks like the bands have been there for a while. They are on both sides by the way. I can take more pics if needed, and they will be better. Thanks guys! :smile:smile:smile
May be you are right....But I have seen similar mint error in Indian coins and thought it might be same in this case.... Anyway one can always get rid of these for good bucks at ebay..
194x souvenir piece I believe that the 194x cent was damaged after it left the mint. It is difficult to see the coin in the photos. I would speculate that it was pressed into some bezel or 2-piece frame or souvenir piece. Alternately, it may have just been mutilated by some device like a machinist's vice. In the case of the vice, the goal may have been to press IGWT into a softer metal object and the 194x coin was sacrificed. This is all pure speculation on my part. It is not surprising to hear that the damage is on both sides. It is difficult to squeeze something if you only press on it from one side. Best regards collect89
