Hello everyone, I hope all is well. Back in Dec. 2018 I started a thread about my collection, Early Dated European Coins. I have no photographic equipment except my phone. So Todd at BluCC images my coins and does a wonderful job. The coins I am going to show here are new to my collection for the past year or so. I hope you enjoy them and please ask any questions.
Cool coins @tibor ! It's neat they all have the year on them as well, these predate my oldest coin with the year on them by half a century.
What they all said. Great coins indeed, and the photographer did a good job too. One brief comment regarding the Brandenburg Goldgulden: Some may be confused as Brandenburg today is the state "around" Berlin. Back then Brandenburg, and then Prussia, had some territories ("Brandenburg-Bayreuth" and "Brandenburg-Ansbach") in what today is northern Bavaria. And while "Swabia" is a region in southern Germany (BW and BY), the mint where that coin was made was in Schwabach, a city near Nürnberg/Nuremberg ... Christian
I believe that this piece was struck in copper or billon. I'm not really sure why copper coinage is so rare from this period in time. Any thoughts?
This is a Scherf from the Erfurt mint. These are relatively rare and at times bring multiples of high estimate.
Most of these coins I won at auction. A few of them I bought from the dealers listed with @ma-shops .
@HoledandCreative Thank you for the kind words. This Spring auction season has been relatively good. The next few weeks will prove to be even better. Several nice pieces coming up. Hopefully I can pick up a few nice ones. Working within a budget can really test a person. I wish I could attend some of these auctions and ask the auction house to re-arrange the order in which they call the lots. The best and usually pricey lots first then the others. Oh well. Today is Mothers Day, my wife and I will have my mother and brother over for a meal. I might be a little late posting.
