Ok guys/gals shoot me your thoughts and grades on this one. Just picked it up.. It is slabbed by ANACS
I think it has some EF Details, but it has excessive bag marks and contact marks, I think it could have gone VF35 but I think it is more likely a VF30...
Some may call me crazy but I like it as a 45+, and if I had to guess, I would say ANACS called it a 45 or 50.
Not crazy at all... I could see it being graded EF45 based on details... I just have a dislike for all the marks, to me that lowers the overall grade just as if the details had been worn away more... Am I wrong with this thought process, or do TPG like ANACS just look at the details when assigning grades. Are the contact marks only seen as lower eye appeal and in the case of a circulated coin, insignificant? When looking at MS coins, bag & contact marks play a huge role in determining grade...Hmmm... Someone set me straight, this is interesting.
EF Details, Net VF20 there is a scratch on it and its been cleaned. Where I don't know but thats what the slab says. I do see mark on the braid, maybe thats it? I need some help with the cleaning part, I just can't see it or maybe I don't want to see it..
Jim: Nice coin, and no, I don't see the cleaning either. Try holding it at an angle, perhaps the cleaning will show that way.
We used to make those back in the 50's and put them back in circulation. This one looks like it has a leg in the middle.
