Picked this up a couple weeks ago. The coin is fantastic considering how most of the date have medium mirrors. Coin is graded PCGS 61DMPL. I welcome any comments!

Todd, is this a "Small O" variety? If so, there are quite a few on VW where they need photos of the mintmark.

Lots of contact in the fields warranting the 61 grade but boy she is pretty! Id be proud to own her!

I was going to say the same thing, looks like a big "gap" where the O should be bigger.

Beautiful DMPL!! I think, one of your nicest cameos. I think the bag marks are not that bad--there are some die polish lines, but that is so common with DMPL coins. The combination of the two yield the grade, but the contrast on the coin is amazing.

Not sure on the VAM, John Roberts looked and it and it was nothing special but could be the small O.

Bought this one just for the mirrors and contrast.

Looks like the small o to me... i dont believe it adds value( like the 1899 micro o) but it could be useful to vamworld if its a vam sans photos
And i really hate to say this, but man that coin sure looks circulated to me...Look at the wing tips and according to wayne millers textbook an AU coin will have a gray appearance in the fields... Couple that with the fact this date/mm is more notorious for sliders than white castle and i believe im looking at a really nice AU or what the old timers call commercial unc

    Congrats on your purchase, but...

I have a really hard time getting excited about any PL/DMPL in a 61 grade. The whole point of buying a DMPL is to see the mirrors - but in a 61 grade, there are so many marks and ding and scrapes and gouges that you can hardly see the mirrors. The coin is practically damaged.

I understand that this particular issue is rather scarce in mid grades, and rare in higher grades. However, I would much rather wait, save my money, and buy a 63 than settle for something like a 61. That is my own particular philosophy, and others may disagree.

Either way, I'm glad that you are happy with your purchase. If you are happy, that's really all that matters.

I followed that rule for a while but I want the deepest for the date now. The grade would mean more for the registry. Why would I want a dull grey DMPL when I can have the one above? I cant finish my DMPL set. I need way more $$ than I can put forth. So a deep 61 is great for me. I also have picked up some 61PL key dates, when the are 8 or 12 in all grades you cant always wait for a 63.

This is a tough date for PL/DMPL/DPL coinage (relative to many of the common dates). It is also a better date in its non PL form.
