I bought this one some time after I got my Limes denarius of him. It wasn't expensive, and more importantly I felt I needed an official coin of him to feel like I actually officially have this ruler. Another hole-filler, but I like the wear on this one. Just wish more of the name "Verus" was there, but overall I like this coin. From Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucius_Verus): Obv: L VERVS AVG ARM PARTH MAX, laureate bust right Rev: TR P VIII IMP V COS III, Aequitas seated left, holding scales and cornucopiae Mint: Rome (struck sometime between December 167 to February 168 AD) Ref: RIC 595 Here is my only coin (a sestertius) of his wife, Lucilla: And my Limes denarius of Verus I mentioned:
Nice addition. Hole filler or not its still something. Ive seen worse. For some reason he can get expensive. He may not be as abundent as Marcus but he is easy to find. My only Lucius: Lucius Verus (161 - 169) AR Denarius O: L VERVS AVG ARM PARTH MAX Laureate head right. R:TR P VII IMP IIII COS III Aequitas standing facing, head left, holding scales and cornucopia. Rome RIC 576 (Aurelius), RSC 297 18.5mm 3.3g His wife, dont have many of those either.
Thanks Mat, all great coins. Yeah, I noticed that also. I guess its simply because he ruled for less than half of what Marcus reigned, and as a result made less coins. But he still made enough that for the most part they aren't terribly expensive and not hard to find. I can spurge more for a better example if I felt a strong itch to upgrade, but for now I'm fine with this one (hey, what can I say, I like fancy dinners, but I enjoy chowing down on the cheap fast food from time to time) .
That's an extremely nice coin, VK, and it makes a handsome set with the sestertius and AE denarius. And Mat, your collection of Lucillas is always impressive.
