("Looking for Netherland 5 cent pieces" http://www.cointalk.com/t95537/) Since I cannot reply in the Open section, I will do that here. Don't have any of those that I could give away, but here is some info. The Netherlands made them for thirty years (1913-43). Not in every year though, and the 1943 pieces were minted in the US (for use in the Antilles and Suriname). Under the German occupation in WW2, similarly shaped 5 cent pieces were issued (1941-43), but in zinc. Also, their design is rotated 45 degrees so to say. As for overseas parts of the kingdom, Curaçao had a design like yours in 1948 (also a 5 cent piece). The Netherlands Antilles had the same one 1957-70, and a modified but still diamond shaped piece 1971-85. Currently the 50 cent coin (since 1989) has your design, and that will be in use until the Neth. Antilles are "dissolved" in October. Aruba, another overseas part of the kingdom, also has a square 50 cent coin, made since 1986. Not "diamond" though, and with a modern design. Between 1995 and 2005, the Aruban 5 florin coin also had that square shape. Christian
A couple of coins of Wilhelmina the Queen (5 cents). 1. 5 cents 1913, copper-nickel, weight - 4,5 g., size - 21,3 mm, mintage - 6000000. 2. 5 cents 1948, bronze, weight - 2,5 g., size - 21 mm, mintage - 23500000.
And a couple yet. 1. 5 cents 1967, bronze, weight - 3,5 g., size - 21 mm, mintage - 32000000. Juliana the Queen. 2. 5 cents 1997, bronze, weight - 3,5 g., size - 21 mm, mintage - 36000000. Beatrix the Queen
Tsk tsk, the queen flat on her nose. I know, one would usually expect the text in horizontal lines. But in this case (the same design can be found on today's €1 and €2 coins from the Netherlands) you should rotate the obverse 90 degrees clockwise. That is how the designer made it ... Ah, and I just looked the mintages of manic_mechanic's square piece up. The most common year for that design is 1923, with a mintage of 10 million. Lowest mintage was 1933, with 1.4 million. Christian
