Hello Today,When i photographing some coins One coin caught my attention, which I found two sides of Nero. Is this considered a very rare thing or is it a normal thing? Thank you very much
Honestly, this is the first time I have seen a double strike on an Alexandrian tetradrachm, but I am sure there is more out there. So IMO, very scarce. Cool find.
Yes, a long time ago about 14 years ago in the city of Ismailia near Alexandria in Egypt. But recently I decided to photograph all my coins and noticed this
Double strike Alexandria tetradrachm of Nero. Here's one of mine. And if you did find all those coins in Ismailia that was a great find. Nero from Alexandria: Type: Billon Tetradrachm, 25mm 12.73 grams Obverse: NERW KLAY KAIS SEB GER, Radiate crowned head facing right. Reverse: AVTO-KRA, Draped bust of Egyptian god Serapis facing right, wearing Kalathos (basket) on head, date LI (year 10) Reference: Milne 222, Koln 160, RPC 5274, BMCGr 156: Sear 2001.
Very cool. The obverse remained nice enough for an unsuspecting collector to pass it over. I like it. i think it makes the topmost Nero look like he has a mullet. And the long neck he never had in real life!
Yes, I see one Hadrian, a Vespasian a few of Nero, and maybe one or two of Augustus. So looks like a 2d century AD hoard, deposited well after 138 AD, based on the wear on the Hadrian coin, the most recent one of the lot.
What an interesting double-strike!!! Here are my Alexandrian tets of Nero.
