Found this on eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272008217978?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT I don't know Nero Claudius Drusus well, and it doesn't look quite right to me. What do you think - real or fake? If it's real it's a potentially awesome purchase at a potentially awesome price (taking into account the sauce stain).
Steer clear of that one! A hideous fake. I don't mean to sound rude, but - if you considered the possibility, even for instant, that the above coin could be genuine, you should not be shopping for ancient coins on ebay! You will get burned many times over. Stick with reputable dealers who can sort out the rubbish for you (some do have a presence on ebay) until you get a better handle on what could be genuine and what certainly isn't.
I'd DEFINITELY be wary of that coin since denarii of that 'Drusus' are rather scarce and pricey, even in that apparent grade---and placing it on 'bid' and not 'best offer' makes me even more suspicious. And then there's the 'e-Bay factor itself. I have an example of both known to history as 'Drusus'---one was the brother of Tiberius and the other the son of Tiberius (bronzes); the offered silver coin is supposed to be the former and is listed conservatively as 'fine', with legends too good to be true and a 'something is way off' portrait. I'd go with 'V's advice........and one at acsearch worth about a thousand dollars!!! Obviously a FAKE!!----- as presented on E-Bay!!! EDIT: Here's the acsearch link http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=608602
YES, don't buy early imperials (or other coins your not familiar with) there! I recently picked up a seleucid tetradrachm...a type i'm not familiar with...I stay the heck away from ebay. If you trust the seller (honest and knowledgeable) it's fine but if you don't ....stay away!
