Thank you sir! I definitely got a heck of a deal on them! I’m gifting one of them to my pops after I encapsulate it, I know he’s going to love it!
Coingratulations! That is a very nice looking Peace dollar in the photo. But is it the one you will actually receive, or is that a stock photo? I picked up a common-date but very nice one at the FUN show this month. It is in an older, 1990s-vintage green label PCGS holder. It's a real lusterbomb. It isn't the most valuable Peace dollar I've owned, but it's one of the highest grade examples I've had. (An MS66 example has eluded me so far.)
Oh- BTW- I just picked up a nice common date, lustrous white Peace dollar in an ANACS MS62 slab, which is destined for my giveaway goodies. I haven't uploaded a picture of it yet.
From the sellers listing, but I’m highly confident with the purchase with them having 99.6% positive rating with over 160k items sold (also including some of their most relevant and recent reviews) I’ve been a lot more nit picky when it comes to buying on eBay, the influx of fakes and/or people selling coins like this at suspiciously low prices has been alarming and have my searches set for US Only and Authorized Dealers at this point because I already found out the hard way: eBay doesn’t do anything when it comes to handling reports of fakes/counterfeits.
I'm just seeing this little tidbit now, I'll be all over that future giveaway! Until then I'll be buying at least one VG-VF Morgan Dollar every week, I'm addicted just a little bit
Yes, the dealer states-- “THIS IS A STOCK PHOTO. YOU WILL RECEIVE A COIN SIMILAR TO THE COIN IN THE PHOTO” it is also one of his negative feedbacks-- THIS SELLER USES "STOCK PHOTOS" WHICH IS MISLEADING. YOU WILL MOST LIKELY NOT RECEIVE THE ITEM IN THE SCAN THAT YOU THINK YOUR BUYING. HE HAS MANY NEGATIVE FEEDBACKS BUT ALWAYS BLAMES THE BUYERS FOR WANTING A RETURN. BAD SELLER, BEWARE !!!!!!!! and he has more listed with the same photo--
Right?? He only has it listed 4 times lol! (and oh god did you catch the negative review where the buyer tried saying the reeded edge was being "Chipped up?" LOL!) For the price i paid i don't expect it to be "holy grail, MS65+, holy crapola, i just hit the jackpot" condition, but if it is close or very similar as he ALSO states, I'll be happy.
As mentioned, stock photos (which will always be the best example they could find). Beware the big companies that buy and sell in bulk. If it isn't exactly as advertised or similar quality, request a return shipping label and send them back. One good thing about eBay is they do protect the buyer, even though a lot of buyers are a pain in the neck, whiners, or do not understand the product they are buying.
"Beware the big companies that buy and sell in bulk." Noted for future reference, this seller seems to be alright though. I'll definitely be posting pictures when they arrive.
That Peace in the OGH is purdy! I know it's just plastic, but I love the old green holders. What years did they use those?
1989-1998 if i can remember correctly, I remember looking up the difference between those and the rattlers
Thanks! I didn’t realize it was a stock photo until after posting, but if they’re as close as the seller claims, I’ll have 3 of them very similar in condition. I’m pretty confident though.
I'll never buy from a stock photo if there's somewhere else I can get the same product and actually see what I'm getting. And with US coins, particularly silver dollars, you've got thousands of places to look, and thus can avoid sellers who use stock photos. One time I did buy from a stock photo was from a gold coin dealer selling those little rectangular gold Japanese bu coins. I bought one of those, sight-unseen, and as I recall, PCGS later graded it XF45. So I did OK on that one. The current one in my collection is an MS63, but I acquired it already slabbed, and it was not a sight-unseen purchase. My point here is that yeah, OK, it is sometimes acceptable to buy sight-unseen, especially if it's slightly more exotic stuff you won't see elsewhere, but generally speaking, I try to avoid "buying a pig in a poke", as the old saying goes.
Though it is not yet added to my Giveaway Gallery, it will be available as a prize choice in either the current giveaway (#121), or any future giveaway, while it lasts. I got it for $45 trade value in a swap. Luster doesn't really show well in these pics.
