Can someone tell me about pattern coins. These are the finished design of the coin but with date a year before minting.

I know these are rare as this is the only set on the public market. Are these popular for collectors ?

If it's genuine, it can't have a date before it was issued. It may be a pattern piece, but I think we need a lot more info and a pic to say more.
