Went CHR today. My local bank gave me all 2023P Penny and Nickel rolls. I know on the penny there is an extra "V" near the designer's initials but, is there anything else to look for or worth opening?
Oooooh! That's a dangerous question to ask in CoinTalk my friend. As far as the coins, I would return them all and get customer rolled wrappers if that's possible.
Well new discoveries can happen in any roll. I say if you have the patience to look thru them all. You might find some interesting die cracks, IDB's, even a new DDO or DDR. Good luck Zeldon.
Would a raised edge on the OBV be considered a Double Die error? I see no doubling on the lettering, just the very high edging on the OBV. TIA
Those are called mis aligned dies. Neat finds to learn with but don't have any premium. That is unless the strike starts taking away from the design. More like an off center. Here is a couple of references. Mis aligned has quite a few different reference's. This will be a good read but stuff you will see when looking at coins, most of the time your examples will be minor compared to the pics you will see but still fun, especially when you find a major example. https://www.error-ref.com/?s=mis+aligned+ Off center happens to both sides of the coin not just one. https://www.error-ref.com/?s=Off+center
Extra V is recognized as a variety by the TPGs. There have been 84 Red examples graded by PCGS so I would say it's worth a shot. Where your sunglasses so you don't get a headache!!!
