your photo tags give that away, but before I noticed those I was thinking PR63 or 64.

Didnt even notice that. I changed them.
Jow do you think it looks with what you think the grade is. Do you think it is a good looking coin. Whats your opinion on the coin itself?

I would guesstimate a PR63BN or PR64BN, but determining a grade on such a coin from images is truly impossible. It looks okay.

If you like it and feels good to you. DO IT. Evey one has the same feeling when buying. Have fun :)-O)

Sorry I didn't respond sooner - was at the Long Beach show, then went to dinner with my family!

This looks like a very nice original MPL, perhaps PF64 BN, hard to tell due to scratches on the holder (try putting some oil on the holder before photographing). Personally, I like to see a little more color or toning on MPLS, but there is nothing wrong with nice solid original chocolate brown - and you don't have to pay a huge premium for it either. It's a nice coin and I would have no problem recommending you buy it if it meets your personal criteria and budget.

Thank you guys for all the comments. After reading Charmies write up on MPL's, I fell in love with them. I read everything I could find on them and decided to start purchasing them. This will be my first one and am very excited about it. It is a PF64BN. The pictures do not do the coin justice and I plan on getting them professionally done since this will be one of my nicest coins yet. My goal is to try and get all the MPL's over time in at least a 64 grade because of my budget.
You guys are great and I have learned so much from this forum. I appreciate all the info and helpful advise from you as well Charmy and I hope to be able to afford one of your Lincolns one of these days. You have been a inspiration to me and I hope to one day have half the knowledge you do of the series. Maybe I will be able to meet you face to face one day and talk.
Thanks again everyone and keep those comments coming.

My guess would have been 63 from the images. I really like the coin. Looks like a great start for the set. Be careful buying these. Know the dealer and be sure you can return it if needed. Folks have trouble getting good images of these and there are lots of them out there that are a bit ugly. It's a short set with high prices so, be happy with each coin as you go.

Just curious. What would be the reason for returning it. Because it is not a good looking coin. Like I said, this will be my first one so I need to know what to look for when I actually get it in front of me. Thanks

Heath, I'd love to meet you too, and feel free to pm, email, or call me if you have any questions or need any help. I think it's a wonderful idea to put together a set of MPL's. It is a short set, but as I'm sure you know will be a bit pricey due to the 1909 vdb and to a lesser extent the 1916.

And PF64 is what I would recommend as well, since 63's usually have some kind of issue and those who collect proofs usually prefer more perfection, as they should. That 1913 will be a nice start. I see nothing wrong with it at all, I just think as I mentioned the scratches on the holder are distracting so it's harder to see the qualities on that piece.

Take your time, choose coins that appeal to you, and good luck on your new adventure!

There are many matte proofs out there in good TPG holders that are just ugly.
We all buy from images that may or may not show the real looks of the coin.

I'm just saying to be happy with each coin as you go.

I agree with the scratches on the holder taking away from the coin itself. Once I get it I will definitely see what I can do to make them less obvious.
The 1909vdb and the 1916 will be the ones that take me the most time to get not only because the rarity of the two but also because of the price point on them as well. Thanks for taking the time to give me some info and advice and as I have learned on this forum, I will definitely make sure the coins appeal to me first and foremost since that is what matters most.
I will get to one of your shows sooner or later but until that day comes, I will keep going to your website and admiring your coins on a daily bases

That is one of the many things I have learned from this forum. I agree that the main thing about collecting coins is that they appeal to you more than anything else. This is why CT is the best forum on the net. Senior members really care about newbies and try to give them quality advise. Thanks for taking the time to do that and I will definitely wait for the right coin.

This forum does seem to be one of a kind in that regard. Newbies get honest advice without judgment. There are also some really knowledgeable people here too!
