Hi everyone! Any info you can give me on this coin is appreciated. I've studied & collected US coins for several years now, but I'm completely ignorant when it comes to world coins. Here are a couple scans......

Japanese 2 sen, 1873. 3,949,758 minted. Seems to be rare-ish.

Oh how I wish you were right!

The pictured coin is actually dated Meiji 9 (1876), and has a mintage of 25.817,570. In VF Krause values it at $3.50, compared to $75 for the Meiji 6 (1873). The comparable grade in the JNDA catalog is listed at ¥800 (~$8.67) versus ¥20,000 (~$21.67).

The 1873 was the first year of that denomination, and there are no reliable mintage figures. The quoted official mintage figure includes the following year, and the relative values indicate that most of that number were dated Meiji 7.

I've been looking for a Meiji 6 to complete my date collection for several years, and know at least two other collectors in the same boat.

Oops! BIG mistake there. I knew it was Meiji 9, but for some reason I copied out the info for Meiji 6.
