Hello All :hail: Being new to the coin collecting hobby, I am looking for some advice on who are the honest online coin dealers, and who I should stay away from. There are so many to choose from and they seem to have a varied price list for the same coins, even in the same grades. I should say that I will be starting exclusively with Morgan dollars for now. I do not know if that matters as to the dealers reputation, but I figured that I would throw in that information. If any of you have some personal favorites, I am all ears for that too. From some posts that I have read, I have garnered the advice to stay away from eBay. Would anyone care to explain why it is a bad to purchase from eBay. I know that when comparing coins from eBay to different dealers, the dealers usually have more appealing coins. Thanks in advance! DHF728
I'm not into Morgans, so I really can't advise who the best dealers are for them. However, I have no problems with eBay and have gotten some nice coins there. The key is to buy from dealers with a no questions asked return policy since you can't judge a coin based on photos alone, especially with how many poor/misleading photos there are. Also, pay with PayPal and use your credit card to pay (not a bank transfer). Then you'll have two levels of protection (paypal and your cc company) in the event the buyer ends up being a scammer.
Buying Morgans on ebay is a sure way to get cleaned coins. While some of them will still look nice they will come back net graded on ebay. My recommendation is to stick with graded coins from auctions with good pictures - might be cheaper than dealers. Just my humble opinion.
