I am in the process of of sorting through a bag of Wheats, and have already found several interesting coins including a 1952 with a ragged clip and a 193? with a straight clip cutting off the last number in the date. I just discovered this 1950, and there is something strange going on with the date. The bottom of the "5" in the date is missing and there is a raised area of extra metal extending from the center of the "5" in the direction of the "0". I was hoping one of the error guru's here could tell me what this is called and/or how it occured. Thanks in advance! Tom
Hard to tell from the picture as a closer veiw would help but it's one of two things. 1) Post mint dammage - The bottom of the 5 was displaced and moved around upward. Accident or intentional is anyones guess. 2) The die had a small chip in it and at the same time coincidently some of the 5 was filled with grease or other crud.
from the 'flip-up' of the digit, 99.9% post mint damage. The digit was scraped (possibly by a coin counter) and moved. Sorry, but keep looking.
