I have just received a parcel of mixed Chinese coins, both Imperial and Republic. The Imperials are OK - that's my field, but after several hours searching through Zeno, a couple of the others are still a mystery. There was also a Tibet 1920 coin. Does anyone know what denomination and currency it might be? The second coin intrigues me. The reverse shows 5 Fen as the value, but the obverse shows 5 FUN. Is this an error, or perhaps more Fen more fun?
The Korean coin is right as it is. The 'fen' would be pronounced as fun in Korean, therefore not an error. Here are my examples of varieties: http://www.gxseries.com/numis/koreatype/koreatype.htm#5fun Yours should be struck in 1893 with the small variety font. Nice one, I don't have it in my collection.
Looks like your 5 fun coin has VF+ details - I can't quite tell. Please do not quote me for this but I think it's reasonable for your coin to be at least 25USD. It's one of those dates where I'm having trouble looking for.
