Hello everyone! I just got these coin's a few day's ago,They are a little rough but they were cheap and interesting to me.So if anybody can help me I.D. these coin's it will be greatly appreciated!!! The other pieces look suspiciously ancient to me. Topic moved; maybe somebody can identify those (Roman methinks) pieces ... Christian
The ancient is A Constantine the Great AE Follis. from ca 310–313 AD. Obv:- IMP CONSTANTINVS P F AVG, laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right Rev:- SOLI INVICTO COMITI, radiate bust of Sol right, no mintmark Minted in Trier. Reference RIC VI 887 Like this one from Wildwinds

What you see on the coin of Constantine that looks like silver is called "silvering." The Romans used various plating and pickling techniques to give some of their bronze coins a silvery appearance. Sometimes actual silver was used, other times it was an alloy of lead, tin, and antimony, chemically treated to look like silver.
