I am thinking about buying a collection of coins....and I'm trying to price out if these guys really go for sticker price he has on the coins. I'm not experienced in buying coins. He wants to sell me this collection of coins for 130 dollars or less. I could work him down to 100. Would really appreciate any feedback I can get....these coins might go soon to somebody else if I don't buy them.
He wants to sell it for $130 OR LESS? Work him down even more if that's the case. First, watch an episode of... oh whats it called... Pawn Wars?
The sticker prices on those coins is ridiculously high. You can go to the PCGS Cert Verification site to see the value that PCGS puts on these coins (http://www.pcgs.com/Cert/). As I've recently learned, the PCGS prices are fairly aggressive. For example, the 1974-S Jefferson Nickel you posted has a PCGS price of $42. However, eBay currently has this coin for $9.95 (Buy It Now) - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974S-PCGS-...43?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item336625030f The dime you show has a PCGS price of $44. That coin recently sold on eBay for $22 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-PCGS-P...00?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4ab8042010 My suggestion to you is to take those sticker prices with a grain of salt. Look on eBay to see what similar coins have recently sold for. That's your best gauge to determine the value of this package.
I don't see anything that special, I mean they're CAM's and if that's your cup of tea then that's fine. Have you even done any comparison shopping? I don't see anything there worth $100 but maybe I'm missing something. Can you tell me why they're worth the sticker prices they have on them?
I agree. I guess you could buy them if those are coins you really want for your collection. But I personally would not pay that much for them.
Lets use heritage 15 for the nickel, 30 for the ike,15 for penny, 28 for the dime,15 for the half, 15 for the quarter. Okay so the total would be around $118. Now I would not offer that. Each of those $15 coins made heritage $14 and the seller less than a dollar. Granted in this case you can probably beat these prices on ebay. Heck the wholesale price on those coins was $15 on heritage and I would not pay those. So if you sold those coins on heritage you would get about $34 - before heritage took the sellers commission. So you would get $30 maybe. Now I do not collect moderns, but maybe these are something you want. I just know I would not pay $130. Who knows what you could get these at a coin show.
I think those are worth more around $50. You have a computer, go on teletrade.com, join, on tuesday night see what $130 will get you without a buyers premium. I imagine you will have around 2x the value.
As far as value, I just don't see it in this lot. The attached asking prices are outragious. You can do what you want, but if it were me, I'd shop around. It shouldn't take too long to find the same grade coins at a much more reasonable price. Just my opinion.
