I came across this 72 penny a sec ago and would like some other opinions. I found it strikingly similar to the DDO9 example I found on Lincoln Resource. Mine is a bit worn but still shows some of the key characteristics.Opinions from experienced members would be great. Full In Liberty the T and Y are extremely close to the example The date is not a perfect example by any means due to the fact that it is so hard to spot on a worn coin. The backend of the 2 doubling is extremely vague but present(notice the dimple on the end of the 7, another match)
Yours clearly does not have the doubling on the 2 like on LCR: http://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/1972ddo9.html
Again, that part is so light, even on the one in good condition that I believe it wore away with circulation @furryfrog02 . Thanks for chiming in, you may be correct, but I would def like more opinions.
I agree with Furryfrog, and if the line has worn off, then it the majority of collectors would not accept it as a DDO-009. You can check the url below for : under the R as shown for the gouge under it ( the area is not very sharp in your photo). Also it is a MAD and yours doesn't appear to be from the photo. Are there any examples of this in circulated or more worn conditions? I dont see that gouge being visible at all after any serious circulation due to the fact u can barely see it even on the mint one shown there. Would you agree that the T and Y match? If so,would that be considered doubling even if it isnt the ddo9 im trying to match? Im new to the hunt and am trying to learn as i go....according to the site i was referring to i had 3/4 of the "doubling" points they were showing so i assumed the light marks were worn away after over 40 years of circulation. Back to the drawing board i guess. @desertgem
Well I wish I could be more positive for you, but the date seems to be the photo in best focus, and any doubling on the left side of the 2 appears MD. When in doubt, label it well, and put it in a plastic container labeled "Later" or something. I have one myself. As one continues, not only does your personal skill of ID increases, you have something for comparison ( if and when) you have another possible 1972DOO-009. Also if in the future your equipment and references increase, you can up it back up for another go around. No one is born with this skill, we all have to develop it. Jim
