Do you think it's worth buying extra sets for resale? I feel there is some potential with this one. Firstly, it's the first satin finish set, and secondly the ever so popular bison nickel. What do you think? David
It will depend partly on supply, which in turn means how many sets the Mint produces. And that for me seems the crux of the problem: by the time I find the production numbers it’s too late to buy from the Mint. Or maybe I’m just looking in the wrong places. I would think the Mint could publish on their site the number of bison rolls, for example, that they have sold so far, with monthly updates. Another example: I can’t find a source more recent than 2003 that tells me the mintage number of AGEs. Therefore, I don’t know how key the 2004 ¼ oz AGE is yet, let alone the 2005. Now, I think Coin World does publish some of these numbers, so I suppose the info is out there. I just wish the Mint would make it more readily available. I’m hoping someone will jump in here and show me I’m wrong by revealing the locations for this data.
Most of the time I buy 1 mint set a year to keep up my set...but I don't think any one can call these "Mint Sets"...I mean they aren't what is in circulation and that is what it is meant for so I would think these are like Proof Sets... Speedy
Most of the time the mintage is not told till after a few months into the next year...I don't know if they keep minting them into the next year or what...I think somewhere on the Mints website there is a place for the mintage for the ASE adn AGE and APE but I can't find it right now. Speedy
I believe if you were to look real close, you would find that the Mint already does this with several of their coins. The halfs, quarters and dimes. That is the only ones they can legally make in silver if they so choose.

On the US mint website, click on Special Programs, then click on American Eagles, then click on the first hyperlink "American Eagle Bullion". It has the mintage figures by year for the circulation strike platinum, gold, and silver eagles.
Thanks, BZ ! I guess I really shoulda looked harder at the Mint web site, but some days surfing that site is like strolling thru a mine field.
Glad I could help Bacchus. Even though I knew it was buried in the Mints website, It took me like an hour to finally find it the first time I looked for it.
I just got two more sets from eBay at $19.99 + $2.75 shipping. They should arrive this week. And they are still sealed in the box.
bzcollektor, A followup to your post on the Mint bullion quantities: I found the page you referred to. Very detailed, if kinda hidden away. Even shows the quantities by month so you can project what the current year will yield. Everything I was wishing for. U.S. Mint American Eagle mintage numbers. Thanks again for the info. Now I'll have to find something new to whine about.
