need identification of this penny

    I have the pictures in the red book of the hi-7 and low -7 on this coin but I can't determine which it is , anyone help? Thanks.

    Looks like a low 7/Large Date to me. Imagine a straight line connecting the tops of the 9 and the 0. If the line touches the top of the 7, it's high, otherwise it's low. (I think. :p )

    I sure hope you don't handle uncirculated or AU coins that way - especially the silver ones. :eek:

    Hi,
    Thats the Large Date variety. Another help in identifying which is which is the word LIBERTY.
    On the large date variety, the LIBERTY is fairly strong in appearance. The best way I can describe the LIBERTY on the small date version is that the word looks weak with letters looking as though they fade into the field of the coin. The top of the T in LIBERTY on the small date coin is very short in comparison to the large date variety.

    I hope this helps. I always heard there was a seam under the top bar of the seven on a large date seven. See my 1st grade drawing, LOL

    In the link you provided the top one appears (Lg date) to have a seam and the bottom one (Sm Date) doesn't??? It's easy :)
