Among all the new coins I recently acquired, this one made me dizzy trying to identify but without any success. It weighs 2.o8 g. and is very likely to be Roman. Thanks.. SilvUnk O.jpg SilvUnk R.jpg

Have a look on Wildwinds at Severus Alexander, see RIC 235 and see if the legend and reverse match.

    Good call, Pish ...

I was too shy to say Sev Alex (my track record speaks for itself)

You're right Pish. The reverse matches and reads Iovi Propugnatori. The coin was struck in Rome and shows Jupiter standing and preparing to hurl thunderbolt. Note that the obverse reads Alexander Pius and not Sev as usual. It's a silver Denarius. Out of curiosity, what's the meaning of the symbol related to hurling thunderbolt?

Zeus (Jupiter, Roman) => God of Thunder
