I just bought this today. It looks to be uncirculated with bag marks. Ive seen some of these grade MS62 with similar bag marks and some even worse. I do not know how that is. I've also seen them sell for big premiums. I am horrible at taking pictures, but believe me the luster is absolutely gorgeous and original, and shines like a freshly minted coin. I just want honest opinions from real people here so I thought Id put up.

I paid $890 out the door and bought it because it has tons of eyeball, and it is a real joy to look at.

Also... would anyone have it graded?? or just leave as is??

    Thanks everyone!

    -Joe

It appears to be a low end mint state coin that looks like it will certify as such. I guess the answer depends on what you paid for it. Can you justify putting another $40 or so in grading fees in it?

The 1901-S has a mintage of 2,812,750. I have one that I sent out and it came back scratched/details. The scratches on mine are probably more numerous than yours. But it's a gamble.

If it were me I would leave it as is. I don't think there is much of a premium between MS60 and MS63 so whatever it comes back as will not matter much.

I see no reason to have it graded. I think MS-62 is a fair grade. You will enjoy it much less in a slab, I know I would.

Thanks for the input, I love that it looks freshly minted other than the bag marks or whatever they are. Most of the people that saw it in person all said MS-60 - MS 63. They all said it depends on who gets the coin at the grading service. Its one those that will come back with a diffrent grade every time. I will probably leave it as is. I figured $890 was fair, as I see them selling for more, but Ive tried to buy these for less and its getting hard. The premiums on these are going up again.

nice coin, I would have bought it. old gold with nice luster is great to own. I have a couple graded 61s that don't look quite as good. mine have a few more dings but no scratches.

Not bad for only $85 over spot.

    Nice eagle! :thumb:

I'd call it 61, maybe 62 on a good day. But personally, I'd keep it raw. This isn't a highly-counterfeited type of coin, and being that it's a more common date, you're not looking at any significant premium for having it in a holder.

About a dozen or so people put it at MS 61 or 62, Thats what I suspected and am happy with that. Yes, I will keep it raw. If gold goes over $2000.00 and premiums get crazy. I might rethink my options, but I don't see that happening right this minute.

My opinion is that it is a damaged coin and ungradeable. But I agree with MS details.

I just got mine out of the safe deposit box [picture posted above].
It's graded by ANACS at MS-60 details [scratched].
