Hello I need help on how to proceed and get coin back from a grading co. that just keeps shining me on.
Howdy alityjo - Wlecome to the Forum !! Can you give us more information, specifically like what grading company you sent the coin to ?
What was the coin? If it was fake they might have had to turn it in to the Gov.....not sure how that would work. Speedy
Five weeks does sound like a long time given ICG's new stated policies about trying to get coins graded in 15 days in most cases. What have people at the company told you? What kind of coin was it and which submission tier did you submit under?
ICG has a 7 day turnaround garantee. You should get a voucher for double your submission in free gradings. Charlie
:smile Thank all of you for your help I will give them 2 more weeks then decide what legal action I have
Have you called......what do they say? If the coin was fake and they had to turn it over to the Fed's there isn't really anything that you can do. Also--what was the coin??...if it was a 1933 $20 gold piece there is NO way you would ever get that back. Speedy
Sure ya would Speedy - they don't care what the coin is and they won't call anybody - none of the grading companies would. Think of the '74 aluminum cent they slabbed - it was returned to the owner without question by ICG and PCGS both. And that coin is supposedly as illegal to own as they get. As for the problem that alityjo has, it's certainly not unheard of for them to take this long grading a coin and returning it. PCGS has been known to take up to 4 months on a regular basis to grade and return coins, but I've never heard of ICG taking THAT long. Taking 5, 6 even 7 weeks yes - 12 weeks no. Anyway, I would suggest calling ICG customer service, explaining the issue and see what they say. If necessary call James Taylor himself and talk to him. Regardless of what the problem is - you WILL get your coin, it's just a matter of time.
I suppose that it could be lost in the mail, in which case there may be an insurance claim to file for compensation, but I agree with Doug, it is very odd. We still haven't heard what happened when you called their Customer Service Dept. I think that this information is rather pertinent in how to proceed. Please let us know what they said.
Call them before taking legal action. Jumping the gun won't look good and may end up costing you quite a bit for just a mistake.
repky I just want to thank allof you that have taken time to respondnothing mighthappen but I met some fine people . alityjo
True---I would think since ICG works hand in hand with the FBI some that they would tend to hand over fakes more than PCGS or NGC. Speedy
I think it was PCGS that identified a stolen Standing Liberty quarter, and reported it to the F.B.I. I don't think any of the grading services have turned counterfeit coins over to the F.B.I. though. Charlie
