Well, it's an error in judgement to plate a coin gold like that, but it's certainly not a mint error.
When the SQ's became real popular for the newbies to the hobby, the tv scammers came up with the bright idea of taking all of the quarters that wouldn't grade high, putting them in a gold wash and selling them as P&D sets (100 coins) for 3-4x face value. When the poor suckers finally learned that these coins weren't worth squat, they spent them. They did the same thing with the colorized SQ's. Chris
No doubt plated. Perhaps spent by some fool after he bought these off of HSN thinking they were really valuable and would appreciate in price only to discover that the Local Coin Shop(s) would offer only 25 cents on a good day.
