It's in an NGC slab and graded AU DETAILS (Damaged).
I've got no problems with that grade; it's correct.
I'm trying to ID the variety AND see if there's a variety label.

I used the book Early United States Dimes 1795-1837 by Davis/Logan/Lovejoy/McCloskey/Subjack, 1984.

    1. Variety - I see it as a Variety 3 from the book.
    Is that correct?
    2. Label - Is there another name for this variety other than Variety 3?

Yep, I make it the JR-3, Middle Die State. Note die crack above T2 that develops into a cud in the Late Die State. Nice coin. I don't mind the damage at all.

Yes, you are correct in attributing it as a variety #3. I don't know of any special name for it because there are not a ton of early dime collectors and there is nothing that is really distinctive about the variety.

Aside from the hit that runs from the "O" in "OF" to below the eagle's right wing, it is a really nice coin. I have a vague recollection of seeing this coin before, but it's probably just my imagination.

Are some of those marks on the reverse adjustment marks?

Yes, the thin, straight ones at the bottom and the right side are adjustment marks. The one I pointed out accounts for the “details” grade.

    Thanks for the info.

Could be from when I first bought it and posted the images in here.
I was VERY happy when I encountered this coin; I believe it was at a Baltimore Whitman Show 5-10 years ago.
I needed one for my US type set and was thinking about a VG/F coin and this one popped up.
I'm quite happy with a damaged AU.

And I think I've got the hang of the variety labels for the dimes (not that I'll ever get another).
Sort of take the variety number from the book I referenced and stick a JR- in front of it.

I'm still missing 2 coins to complete my type set but it's highly unlikely I'll get either of them.
They both have 5-digit price tags in F/VF grades.
