I have an Alexandrian tetradrachm of circa 250 AD whose previous owner had it as a coin of Trebonianus Gallus, but the reverse, the common standing eagle, has the date L A or year one of the reign of this emperor and all the tetras of Gallus have only the year three. Looking just at the image I would have said Trajan Decius or maybe Valerian but I cannot make out the inscription. I would appreciate if I could get this nailed down to the right ruler but I just cannot make out enough letters on the obverse to do this. Any help on this would be wonderful. Yes, it does look like him but on mine the inscription is hardly legible even when you know that the letters are supposed to be. Whether that is from a bad strike, or worn dies or a celator who blundered the lettering (or deteriorating eye sight). I just could not make it out. Not that it matters here is the reverse and the obverse under different lighting. Thank thumbnail_IMG_2416new tet obv.jpg thumbnail_IMG_2417new tet rev.jpg you very much.
