2 years ago my dad passed away...he was not a coin collector...recently I have started collecting coins....mostly new coins from the US MINT....as my hobby has become quite involved, I have started talking to my friends and family about coins.

Well today my mom gave me 7 rolls of mercury dimes that she said my dad had. She told me once a guy (she thinks he was a drug addict) can into my fathers place of business and wanted to change them for bills....he asked for $35 and my dad gave it to him.

The coins are in tubes and some are marked early 1900s, 20-30s, etc.

So now I need to learn a little about dimes....are there any key dates I should look for? Or anything else that might be something I should know to look for.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

First off, sorry about your dad's passing.

As for the coins, key and semi-key dates include 1916 D, 1921 & 1921 D, 1926 S, although, depending on the condition, almost any teens, twenties, or thirties carry a premium. Be sure to check for Full Bands and the 1942/1 variety and the 1945 S 'micro s'. Good luck and that's a great catch.

I am sorry about your dad and just like to add as a semi key the 1931 D it is a bit under appreciated in my mind
