Okay, I know the chinese number system 1-10+ but for some reason I am having a hard time figuring out the date on this coin:

Now around the head of the bust I see the symbol for 1, 10 and 6?

Now I know this coin is from 1970 thru 1981 (59 thru 70)

can someone explain where on this coin is the date?

    You have to read the symbols from right to left ; you first encounter 6, than 10 and 1, this makes (6 x 10) + 1 = 61 (= AD 1972)

The character at the far left is the symbol for "year". On any coin dated with Chinese characters, look for that symbol and start reading at the other end of the legend. Any characters preceding the first number are part of the calendar designation (in this case "Chinese Republic"). Then come the numbers, and finally the year character.
