I picked this up for a few dollars because I like the reverse, but I have no idea on attribution. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Unfortunately, that link is of no use because this is not a Qing Dynasty coin cast for monetary purposes. The coin is a charm of some sort. I suspect it to be of modern make given the patina.
I have a similar one and a reference that you can reserach. I know nothing of them. @Ken Dorney can be of help to you also: China, Song Dynasty, 10th - 12th Century AD AE Gaming Token, 29mm, 6.42 grams Obv.: Zhui Feng Zhi Ma (horse following wind). Rev.: Horse galloping left. Reference: Classic Chinese Charms Vol I, 2149 ex Ken Dorney
Yes, these are typically classified as gaming tokens, but in other cases 'horse charms'. Yours differs in a slight style as the horse looks back to the right (which is common for the type) but is not listed in the reference cited. At a few dollars you got a very good deal.
Very cool. This is quite helpful. Thank you. Thanks for the detail Ken. I’m going to research gaming tokens now.
