Hi, guys. I've been collecting U.S. coins for quite a while, but have recently developed an interest in ancients. Starting to get the knack of attribution, but having difficulty with the coin posted here. Any help you can give would be appreciated, as would suggestions for sources to turn to. Thanks much! V. As far as I can tell: obv -- all illeg. except for NIV and I or L at the nine to eleven o'clock positions. rev -- (illeg.)MSC(illeg.) E or O or Theta (illeg.); ANTR in exeg.
I think this may be your coin. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/bigp...9_Moushmov_7.jpg&ruler=./ric/philip_II/i.html Philip II, as Caesar, AE29 of Provincia Dacia. Year 1 = 246/247 AD. That's great -- thanks! Any tips? Did you just recognize the reverse, or was there some method you used to winnow the pool of potential coins?
Chuckle, I held my computer screen away from from me and the letters just seemed to show themselves better. The H morphed into an N up close and on the reverse the ANT was really and ANI. Trial and error
