Ok guys I need a little clarification on this 2011 ASE I just obtained. What's throwing me off is the 'W' mint mark on my eagle. My 2012 RedBook only listed like 2 varieties but my 2013 NA Coins and Prices reference book listed a few more varieties and I just want to know what I have. If its the normal business strike it needs to go in my album, but if its the burnished variety I wanna keep it separate. The 2013 Reference Book lists: (note, this is how it appears in the book) 2011 Price $37.50 2011 P Reverse Proof Price $335 2011 S UNC. Price $275 2011 W Burnished Price $65 2011 W Proof $74.10 i would assume I have the W Burnished variety, but I'm just too dang confused on this to make a determination on my own. Help me please
You have either a burnished or a proof. Burnished = blast white all over. Proof = white/frosted devises (the design) & mirrored (shiny) fields (flat areas).
It's definitely the same color all over. No mirrored fields. Really the Redbook was confusing me. My other book made it clear there were several examples for that year whereas the Redbool only had 2 or 3 types listed (probably didn't have all the numbers or whatever since it was 2012 edition and were talking about 2011 coins). Anyway, thanks for confirming this for me, it made my day. Someone traded that burnished to me for the price of just a regular old eagle. Can't beat a good deal like that!
I lost track of all the different types they have made the last several years. Some are the same coin but came in a different package. Not sure I'll ever keep it all straight.
If you got that for the price of a regular bullion eagle, that is a very nice score. Those sold at the mint for either 45.95 or 50.95 depending on when you ordered. Congrats, TC
The 2012 Redbook came out in early 2011 and was compiled in 2010 before what would be in the 2011 25th anniversary set was announced.
