A guy that works with my dad has the above mentioned coin, been in his family for a long time. I haven't seen it, but he asked my dad if I could help him get it appraised. He's absolutely opposed to mailing it anywhere to get it graded, and I personally wouldn't trust any local dealer to treat him fairly. Could anyone help me with what software would be needed to scan and post it on here? I know that you guys are all pretty good with that stuff. I figure that if I can post in on here, we can get a consensus grade (and maybe a buyer) to use as a guide if we do take it to a dealer. Ed
Hi ewheely. Surely someone has a camera they can use to snap a photo of the coin. Just take a nice picture (set camera to macro) and upload here through your post. Keep in mind, newer phones have a macro setting as well and may be good enough for this.
Good to have you here Ed. We really do need a decent picture so we can comment on authenticity, grade, value, etc. Bruce
Hey Ed. What's a Draped Bust $10? There are Draped bust large cents, but it looks like just about everything else in 1799 was the Capped Bust design. Is it a gold coin? PM me a couple pics. I use photoscape for my pics. I'll see what I can do with them, crop and combine them and send it back to you.
Local dealers might just be able to validate it is genuine - you don't have to sell to them even if fake or real. If real then I would recommend sending it(or getting it to) PCGS or NGC to grade. You can hand carry it to PCGS or NGC at one of the major shows - or otherwise mail it. Just try to get the best clear picture you can.
mark- by any chance do you know where these shows are located and hosted where you could walk in and have them grade your coin?
Pcgs will be in Pittsburgh in Oct 13-15 http://www.pcgs.com/shows/do_search_shows.chtml Ngc will be in Philly in Sept and in Pittsburg in Oct http://www.ngccoin.com/events/index.aspx
if its a 1799 10$ gold piece .... estimated value is $4,000 in " good " shape and climbs from their to $30,000 to $80,000+ in high mint condition grades . If that coin is a 1799 gold piece it needs to be professional graded as the price increases are huge based on condition. Many people with high dollar coins make appointments and hand deliver coins to grading companies
