A friend of the family found these in a drawer and did not want them. They told me to put together a price that I thought was fair. Here's whats on the table....... 12 Circulated IKEs 1925 Peace Dollar XF 1926S Peace Dollar VG cleaned 1921 Morgan X2 one AU damaged and the other was in good cond. 1885P Morgan VG 1885O Morgan G I was thinking between $65-75.
I thought something in the $80 to $100 range would be fair but without seeing the coins or knowing anything about the Ikes, it's a wild guess.
hey Joe, for the 1921 morgan, do you mean one was in "good" condition as in AUish, or do you literally mean G-4 cond.? stainless
Thanks gang, I knew I could count on all of you for some help. No one has ever approached me before to buy their coins and I wanted to offer a fair price. The way I determined my price was to offer $1.10 for each IKE and silver price for each Morgan. I came up with $65 and change. I figured that my local coin shop would offer at least that for the IKEs and much less for the Morgans, so I felt $65 was fair since none of the Morgans were in collector grades. Thanks.
What do you plan to do with the coins once you buy them, especially the "non-collector grade" Morgans?
Interesting mix. 1. Why even bother with the Ikes? Just have the person take them to a bank and then they can be taken out of the equation. 2. I assume you're using something like the $8.6 "melt" value that is listed on coinflation? At $8.6 per silver dollar, I think a lot of members of this forum would be asking where to back the truck up to.... Based on that, I should be able to buy a roll of G/VG silver dollars on e-bay for $180 shipped to my door. I don't think so. At $65 or so, you could flip those on ebay without breaking a sweat and make $30-$50 easy.
I was just wondering because they may be hard to unload. If he wants them for his collection that's all fine and good. If he is buying them to sell it may be difficult to sell the coins that are not collector grade. That's all.
Not be able to sell cull silver dollars? Here's a link where the guy is selling 20 cull Peace dollars - says they're culls in the title. Gets $265 + $15 shipping for 20. Check the seller's "Other Items" and then completed auctions. Seems like there's a market. 230318687052 There are also many other auctions - $12 is minimum price for the crapiest silver dollar and they sell like Hot Cakes!!!
I am trying to put together a roll of silver dollars - both Morgan and Peace. Also, trying to put together a roll of ASEs. If I can find a silver dollar for less than $10 and a ASE for less than $16 I try to buy it. Unfortuanetly, so is everyone else so supply is often limited. Even my local coin shop is selling AG Morgans for $15. But lately, either as door prizes at my local shows or local coin clubs or by trading stuff, I have acquired about 6 silver dollars and 5 ASE collected so far. This purchase if it goes through will add 6 more silver dollars. I figured with the 12 IKEs I can start a roll of them too. I don't know.... its the little things that keep me motivated and collecting during the slow months. :rolling:
Ok, here is an update to this story. As I mentioned these coins were from a family friend. THey were given to my inlaws who were then to give them to me to inspect. When I came up with the price above, my father inlaw quickly said that he would pay that. I was kinda surprised since I was thinking that they were given to me to have first dibs, but its my father inlaw and I didn't say anthing. Well, my mother and father in law kept dropping hints that they really wanted these coins. (Remember it was only 12 IKEs and 6 sivler dollars) THey were just acting all weird and stuff. So then I told them that I wanted them and my mother in law said well it will be up to her husband to decide that. Well they never called us... this was weird because they call us nightly. This whole thing was weird. I really could care less, but I knew there was something bigger to this. So finally last night I pressed my mother in law for more info.... come to find out, they wanted the coins to put into a toilet seat!!! LOL!!! Now you just have to realize how crazy my inlaws are. Well the story here is that the lady who gave us the coins acuatlly had a toliet seat that her late husband had made back in the the early 60's with silver coinage. I saw it once and it was neat. Well ever since then, my inlaws have been wanting one. LOL! They were going to use the coins to make their own toliet seat. Now knowing this, I am going to offer up a bunch of common date silver dimes, quarters and halves to their cause. How crazy is that. LOL! THey are nutballs, but I love them to death. Just thought I would share this story with you all.
Wow. I can see if you want to put low-end coins in a Lucite (or whatever) toilet seat, but I wouldn't be putting Morgan dollars in one. Seems ridiculous to me. Plus, if a desperate thief breaks in, you could find yourself...um...nevermind.
