    Hi everyone-

I'm hoping to get some good advice before I head to a dealer, I'd like to purchase some 2006 coins for a new family baby.. Obviously, I don't want to get ripped off and would prefer to buy something where there is a chance for future value.

I'm in a major city and there's tons of coin dealers so I'm thinking it won't be hard to purchase quality.

    Also..

I'm thinking US 2006 mint coins rather than world.

I'm looking to spend somewhere between $150-300 but could spend more.

    Any help would be appreciated!

I would suggest the 06 proof and or mint sets, and an American silver eagle. The chances of a big increase in value are slim but the silver ASE and a silver proof set would at least have the silver value. Any of them would have at least a sentimental value.

From UK post offices you can buy just these...Baby Coins sets for births.

I like vipergts2, belive a 2006 proof set...or maybe even a silver proof set is the way to go.

In that price range, you could get a nice looking 2006 1/4 ounce Uncirculated Gold American Eagle... if you prefer gold instead of silver.

I like proof silver eagles. I like tcore's idea too though.

Howdy ziontrain - Welcome to the Forum !!

If you could afford it, I'd go with the 20th Anniversary Gold Eagle set. But it's pricey.

I'm not sure about the gold coins, but can you go to any of the banks in your city and trade/buy all the 2006 coins you need? It would sure save you a lot of money!

I think I'd go with a proof set, a silver eagle and maybe a 1/10 gold eagle or some similar variation. You're budget is a pretty big range so if you wanted to spend more like $300, you could go do a proof set (~$40), the 20th edition silver eagle set ($100) and maybe a 1/4 eagle (~$175) or something like that.

I bought a regular 2006 proof set for my best friend's baby. It was inexpensive but I thought it might have more sentimental value and mean something to him historically. He can look at these when he is older and see what exactly what was minted for circulation.
