My mom came across a 2006 Nebraska quarter win an unusual marking on it. I've been a coin collector since the 60's and have seen several anomalies but not a raised shape on this quarter. Can anyone either see something or have any ideas ?
Hello, Your Quarter has been damaged by exposure to high heat. It caused blistering underneath the clad layer. It is no mint of any kind. Someone could have hit it with a flame from a propane torch. Welcome to CoinTalk
Welcome to CoinTalk @D. Pauley! As @paddyman98 mentioned, this coin has been exposed to high heat, and is therefore damaged.
It's no known mint error of any kind. So by simple deduction it is PMD - Post Mint Damage. I've/we've seen plenty of blisterd clad coins over the years to give the explanation.
He along with others are very knowledgeable. He knows what he is talking about! Now it may not be how you like it or believe it but we all have been there lol! I’m still there at times! lol!
I voted for "10" because someone else had voted for "20". Whatever that means. That tied 'em, 1 to 1. Now I see "10" has pulled ahead, with another vote...
That happens at times with new members. When they create their very first thread, they are given the option to create a pol. Many times they ignore it but sometimes they create it thinking it is required.
The mystery of the coin is solved but I didn't see anyone confirm or deny if @paddyman98 was strange or not
