Howdy again, I need y'alls help again in determining a year for a Hong Kong One Cent Banknote that I have. Here is the image: I went to this site KCshop and it showed that there are 5 different year ranges. Here is the list of year ranges: 1.) 1961-71 2.) 1971-81 3.) 1981-86 4.) 1986-92 5.) 1992-95 Thanks to anyone who can help me.
This has signature #2: C.P. Haddon-Cave and would fall into the 1971-81 issue range. These are fun little notes. I remember having a cashier ask if I had anything smaller than the 20 I presented. In fact, I happened to have nothing smaller than a 20 other than this in my wallet, which I presented him. He was not amused. But several others thought it was hillarious.
Great and thanks for the information. One last question, is it normal for this banknote to have nothing on the back? because the image I posted on the back it is just blank with no image or anything. Should I be worried or not?. thanks
Yes, it is supposed to be blank. No need to worry. Some countries have issued notes with only one side printed, known as 'uniface', especially on low value notes. These days though, the catalog price is up to 50 cents US, but I've seen them on Ebay and in some shops for more.
Thanks for the information. I bought the note for about 50 cents a few years back and I thought about buying from ebay but I don't buy currency that is over priced but stick to low price items that sell for less then 5 dollars.
Hey - nothin' wrong with that! There's a lot of nice stuff to be had for $5. There are a lot of notes in my collection that I have that fall well within that price range.
I remember as a kid in Chinatown, you could buy these for like 1¢ each, which still was a heck of a profit for the seller, since there about $HK6-7 to the US$1. So they were selling them for 6-7 times what the face value was, but you still thought you were getting a heck of a deal. I have a small stack of them still.
You must of been lucky. The only Asian Banknotes money I have are: 2 Chinese banknotes (1936 5 Yuan and 1942 10 yuan), a 10Piso note from the Philippines, 50 Riels from Cambodia and a 5000 Lira note from Turkey. What I would like is to find a banknote from Hong Kong in a higher Denomination from when it was still British.
The only Hong Kong notes with the British monarch on them are $1.00 Government of Hong Kong notes (GV, GVI and EII) and the small $.01, $.05 and $.10 notes of of GVI and EII. They are available but he GV and GVI notes can be pricey. There are many private bank issues from this period (pre-1999), however, which can be obtained for a little more than face for the recent notes.
